Sophos UTM future

Hi,

I have got a call with people from Sophos last week for Sophos Central. routerlogin

I currently use two instances of Sophos UTM with 75 & 10 IPs (software only, no hardware appliance).

For a long time, I have seen that Sophos is keeping these two softwares for a lot of reason and that they keep working on UTM. They told me that I will have to migrate to XG firewall because they are slowing down any development on UTM.

I am not comfortable with XG Firewall, how some things are done, lack of some features brought by UTM, how the software was bugged for a long time (I have no idea if theses problems are fixed now). 192.168.0.1

So my points are :

  • is anybody here can confirm that UTM will die in 2 years ?

  • is there any easy way to migrate from UTM to XG ? (configuration & licensing)

  • UTM and XG users, what is your feeling about XG now ?

Thx !

Sophos standard policy is that End-of-Life is three (3) years after End-of-Sales.  End-of-Sales has not been announced: Retirement Calendar: Sophos SG UTM, XG Firewall, Wireless, RED.

There is no easy way to migrate to XG at this point in time.

The reason the XG Firewall is in the upper-right-hand quadrant in the Gartner chart is because of its integration with Sophos Central.  If you have cloud-based email, Central Email is a great email proxy.  When you are ready to switch from a competitive anti-virus to Sophos' Intercept X for workstations and servers, moving to XG in the near future can make sense.

    Cheers - Bob
