UTM install on Mini-PC

I am using a MIni-PC to get the asg-9.706-9.1.iso image loaded from a flash drive ,the mini -PC  wont see it on boot , I tried  PFsense / opensense and untangeled , all boot from the stick on the same PC just fine and install, any idea what I am doing wrong.

I used Rufus 3.15 for all those ISO's to create the bootable flashdrive.

Not sure what I am missing

thank you

  • Is it an install.tar error?  Are you actually booting but it won't install?  Please specify, because I don't know if this is your hardware issue, or a UTM install issue.

  • It is not getting to that point , the usb drive is recognized in the American Megatrends BIOS as a valuable option as a UEFI Boot (so the drive is seen)

If I create a bootable image on the same drive via Rufus from  PFsense / opensense or untangeled  and boot, it is recognized immediately on this drive.and will start the install.  if I try UTM it wont start , it does not load the startup. Hope I explain that better.

I tied the setup advise of Installing Sophos UTM 9.x from a USB memory stick | Blog de TresW   with no luck, it wont boot from the flash drive with utm

  • I use Rufus to make my bootable ISO, but I don't believe I use UEFI, I think I use GPT or MBR instead because I had something similar happen.  It's been a long while for me to remember.

You will also most likely come up with the install.tar error.  If you do, here are the steps:

Step 1: Restart the server. You can't get through this error and start all over again without restarting.

Step 2: Boot from USB. You'll need to load all the way to the installer, but don't start the installation yet.

Step 3: Open the shell press ALT F2 before proceeding with anything else. This will open the shell where we run our command to remount.

Step 4: Reassemble the USB drive. The main command you're going to execute will be something like this.

                 Mount /dev/sdb1 /install

Step 5: Exit the shell safely. Press ALT+F1 to exit the shell

Step 6: Install. Run the installer.

  • i tried all options on Rufus , i could. When you choose the  asg-9.706-9.1.iso it hard sets most of it, so there are not many changes you can do . I just cant get it to boot , I did see the install.tar before and I am not really worried about that . If I would bet to that point :-(   . the strangest thing is that all other FW installers work exactly the way I try to use UTM  Thanks Amodin
