Sophos UTM sizing question.

I have a customer that is a Bakery. They are getting a 50Mbps Fiber connection and we need to segregate that connection for Corporate and Guests. They only have 8 Users on the Corp side, but could have anywhere up to 60 guests at a time there that could be using the guest wifi.

My initial plan was to put in a SG115 and create two separate LANs. One for Corp, one for Guest and run a couple of APs on the guest side for wireless connections. My concern is I only usually use the SG115 for up to 20 users or so. With the Guest WIFI users I was not going to use any web filtering or anything, pretty much just internet access and throttling the bandwidth for that Guest LAN to something reasonable.

What are your thoughts? Do I need a higher end model or will the SG 115 suite my needs here? https://tweakbox.mobi/

  • Hi Hasin and welcome to the UTM Community!

As an official Sophos reseller partner, I would ask such a question of my Channel Sales Engineer at Sophos.

If you're not doing Web Filtering or Intrusion Prevention for the guest network, I would try the 115.

The UTM can only manage Sophos WiFi APs and with one or more of those, you wouldn't need separate APs for Guest and Corp.  Depending on the layout of the bakery, you might be able to use an SG 115w.  Sophos Partners can also get advice from the Wireless sales desk at Sophos.
