Future of SG

Hi,

we wanted to get proposals for new UTMs today and were informed by a German channel partner in astonishment that SG "maybe" can no longer be bought and that it would be over from the end of 2022.

I cannot imagine this with the best will in the world. Firstly, there is still no functional parity with XG in my eyes and secondly, there is no cleanly developed automatic migration process. Purely subjectively, I estimate the SG users at about 85% and the XG at about 15% purely quantitatively.

In this respect, this would be a wrong signal in my eyes, also for economic reasons.

Could Sophos please say something about this? Because if the SG is actually completely discontinued and the two reasons mentioned above are still valid, then we have to look around for something else.

Thanks

Joerg

  • Hi Bob.

As usually - great to hear from you/

As I see software UTM are still Active.
    Good news.
Are there any plan for the future concerning UTM?
Are they going to develop it (out of security update?)

  • Well, as i said in my other threads. It's also a trust issue.

So can we trust this Calendar ?

Or does the long period of no updates and the support issues tell a different story ?

The result are rumors which will lead to the same effect ( long term) as an EOL. People will just walk away.

no one will habe to deal with support issues, unclear product support and rumors about the status of the product in use.

it would be a VERY good idea for sophos to get up with a pro statement for the UTM, because there are too many rumors already in the wild.

  • I seriously doubt development will be a thing for SG and will be just patches.  Efforts are going more towards the XG series, and probably should be to get it up to a viable standard.

  • We have the same concern as an IT service provider with 80+ Sophos SG Customers.

If Sophos wil stop SG we will switch to another Firewall maybe Fortigate. XG is not a stable or a usable Product in near future..
