Wifi speed problems on utm 9.705

Hi.

i have a UTM 9.705 versjon up and running.

i have been using sophos for some time. and now i have a speed problem for my wifi.

I have a amplifi alien router NEW.  i have connected this on my lan. ang get poor speed download, but good upload speed.

I have a fiber connection 500/500. and i get full speed directly to my isp modem.

if i connect my alien router before my sophos i get full speed up and down. ( thats modem-router)

so my que is, is there a setting or something that is affecting my speed down on utm? i have gigabit lan cards innstalled.

i have a home user licence on my utm.

  • im working the issue, withouut luck. the problem is only wifi. lan is normal (full speed)

my cpu and ram on utm is normal, 30-40% use.

what is strange is, if i connect my laptop before utm then i have no problem on wifi out to my isp. so it is the utm problem lies.

i have tried to switch off everything i can think of now. but no luck.

i have began to set up a new server with clean innstall utm. no backup. so this is my next step.

  • Great suggestions, Amodin.

Lars, Do you have an MTU conflict?

    Cheers - Bob

  • To add to my comments below - make sure that any access points you have are on their own channels, especially if you have a 2.4 GHz AP.  APs using the same channels will cut your speed down, so assign static channels to each one that is different.  I have my three APs assigned to channels 1, 6 and 11.

Check the area around you using a Wi-Fi analyzer (free smartphone tools) to see what congestion is around you on what channels are being used.

  • Hi. i have now debugged everything without luck. so i set up a new server with a clean innstall of utm. without use of  backup , and it seems my problem is gone.

so i think the issue lies somewhere in the rules or installation of old utm. not hardware.

thx all for help on this.

  • Yes, I have too many times run into this very same thing.  Glad it's at least working for you, and too bad we can never really figure out why these issues take place.  Users get so frustrated (myself included) we just have to bite the bullet and start fresh, because our time just isn't worth it to problem solve, and much more efficient starting over.
