Does UTM supports sending of voucher code thru SMS for users connecting in Guest WiFi, if so may I request for guidelines please.

Thank you in advance and regards.

    Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community!

Unfortunately, it's not possible to send voucher code through SMS for guest wireless users.

The UTM currently offers three different types of Hotspots:

    • Password of the Day: A new password will be created automatically once a day. The password will be available for the allowed users on the Hotspots tab in the User Portal or configured to be automatically emailed to administrators.
    • Voucher: With this hotspot type, in the User Portal, one-time tokens with different properties can be generated, printed, and provided to customers. After entering the code, the customers can then directly access the Internet.
    • Terms of Use Acceptance: Customers can access the Internet after accepting the Terms of Use.
    • (Since version UTM 9.2) Backend Authentication: With this new feature, you can use the users defined on your UTM to provide the rights to use the Hotspot.

For more info, check out the following KBA: Wireless Hotspot in UTM v9: use and configuration.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you for the reply . The KB you provided is helpful

Our organization is looking for a solution that allows users to registers themselves and get the code thru SMS.

I had a conversation with our local reseller, as there is a workaround, but it involves scripting at the backend which redirects to a 3rd party sms api, but they have not tried it. Do you have any KB for this?

I went over some web search and found this video --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG7CynHCXSI

Our local reseller also mentioned SMS authentication is available for Sophos XG, and we may request for a POC for it since the Sophos UTM SG 550 we have is almost 10 years old. Maybe its time for replacement?

    Thank you and Regards

    Hi ,

    Thank you for the update.

If you're looking to move to the XG firewall and require a POC, check out the following document and reach out to the regional Sophos Sales team.

    Thanks,
