Sophos UTM Home Edition throughput

Thanks to todays earlier post I suddenly find myself in the market for a firewall that can handle 2Gbps throughput.

showboxIt seems it's either pfSense or Sophos around these parts. So with that in mind

my question is: given the host system has enough horsepower, can UTM handle 2Gbps of traffic?usps tracking

    Yes.

    There are no limitations for Home-edition except the 50 IP Limit.

    Maybe.  What's your use case?  Do you mean 2Gbps total for all users?  How many?

    Not sure about your hardware, but I use an i5 that in the meantime would be around 5 years old. Have run it a long time on UTM 9.x and could handle about 200Mbps with IPS/AV/Webfiltering on, just about everything on so to say.
    Stopped using it at home when our internet connection was changed to 1Gbps fiber. I have now installed XG firewall on this same machine and in speedtests get speeds of just about 500Mbps both up- and downstream.

    Could be that the limitation is the firewall, but could also be the speedtest server since it has always been a "struggle" to really get high up- and or download speeds.

    It also gets me close to 500Mbps IPSEC between my home and the 500Mbps fiber connection at my workplace.

    So, not saying that UTM won't get you the speed you need, but XG might just be the better option (but you would still need a good processor with a high clock speed).
