"Prefilter" security boxes

Good Morning All:

I've been contacted by at least two companies selling what I would generically call "prefilter" devices that sit between your firewall appliance and your ISP connection(s). Claims like increase security, take the load off your firewall, etc.

They claim to filter both incoming and outgoing and screen it against known malware sites, bad actor IP's, etc. They also upload logs to a SOC service that your subscribe to.

Seems somewhat duplicative of what the Sophos is doing. Additionally we use a DNS filtering service (like Umbrella, Akamai, etc.) and use that for external resolvers.

I've got a HA SG-330 in one location, and the 120 in another location. Has anyone had any experience with these "prefilter" boxes, Worth it? Duplicative? Hype?

Thanks,

John S.
