Question to Endpoint Protection Feature

Hello!

we have a customer using Sophos SG UTM.
In the Endpoint Protection Module we saw that the endpoint subscriptions are discontinued and we should create a free Sophos Central account:

We have now stopped selling Sophos UTM Endpoint Protection subscriptions as of December 31st, 2018 and will retire support at the end of 2019.

Customers should upgrade — for free — to Sophos Central-managed Endpoint Protection which delivers enhanced protection and management capabilities. Learn more: https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/122865

Is that Sophos Central Account only needed for the Sophos UTM to map the Sophos UTM to Central-managed Endpoint Protection? Or is it for all Endpoint Protection Clients with Sophos Antivirus installed?

Because we don't want that the Endpoint Protection Clients connects directly to Sophos Cloud Servers. Instead of this, the endpoint protection clients should get the antivirus updates and patterns from the utm internal. Is this still possible?

Thank you so far.

  • Hi Bepo,

Sophos Central is completely separate from Sophos UTM.  The UTM will not be involved in any way with Sophos Central so you won't be able to use the UTM as an update location for your endpoint updates.  That being said if you have any Windows Servers you plan on protecting, you can install the additional feature of Update Cache which will act as an internal update server for your endpoints.

  • Hey MEric,

thank you for the answer and for the link to: "Update Cache"-Feature. So the Endpoint Protection Clients get their updates from Sophos Central, if we use a Sophos Central Account, right?

    Best regards

    Bepo

  • Yes. Sophos UTM/SG lost all these features.
