UTM getting wrong MAC address for HSRP

Anyone else have a problem with the UTM getting the wrong MAC address for your switch? We see the same problem with the UTM and XG.

We have two Cisco Nexus switches setup with HSRP. Instead of the UTM/XG getting the virtual MAC address from HSRP, it always gets the MAC address for our Cisco ASA.

This happens in two different locations. Working with Cisco but they couldn't find an issue. The only solution is to add a static ARP entry.

  • Not familiar with the technology, but no device can get a valid MAC address unless that address has been transmitted.

Your focus needs to be on tbe packet sequence that is supposed to replace the MAC address.   Is the new ARP really gettinng to UTM? Most likely, it is being blocked in transit by a switch with enabled ARP fraud defenses enabled.
