SSL Connect via openvpn: ping with dns-names problems

Hi,

I use openvpn GUI v11.12.0 under Windows 7/10 and connect my firewall UTM9  with SSL.

  • nslookup xxx.com works fine
  • ping IP works fine
  • ping xxx.com can't resolve the name ( or via DSL by Telecom I got a address from telecom-info-server)

I configure in UTM9 -> remote access -> DNS / WINS Server. This entries can I see by ipconfig /all

I suppose, The call goes to the default gateway -> dsl instead of gateway in my VPN.

I have no problems with IPSec.

I have no more idea, whats wrong.

  • Hi Papa_,

thx, your tip helps partly. I got no more a wrong ip-address via telecom-dsl.

But ping can't resolve the name.

errormessage: Ping request could not find host SERVER / SERVER.xxx.com

nslookup: can resolve server or SERVER.xxx.com

the network adapter as the connection-specific DNS-Suffix: xxx.com

dns-server is correct set, wins-server is also correct.

    in Wireshark I see:

    SSL:

    • nslookup works with dns
    • ping SERVER search only via netbios ??!!
    • ping SERVER.xxx.com returned immediately with message: Ping request could not find host server.xxx.com (no network traffic)

    IPSec:

    • nslookup works with dns
    • ping SERVER works with dns ( and add automatically domain-part )
