Unable to login SSH even after changing the password from the web admin portal. the same thing if I do it through console it works

Unable to login SSH even after changing the password from the web admin portal. the same thing if I do it through console "https://www.fastvue.co/sophos/blog/reset-sophos-utm-webadmin-password/" it works but again after two or three attempts it works

  • "Failed password for loginuser" - the loginuser password for SSH is not the same as the password for the admin user in WebAdmin.

    well, correct me if I am wrong from what I understood from your answer. it means that I should not use admin password for "loginuser", is that correct? is this the reason why it fails to remember the credentials after being reset. 

     

    Same as the above, "loginuser" password also shouldnt be the same as root password.

  • The passwords do not have to be different.  You can use the same one for admin, loginuser and root.

    I'm confused though.  Are you able to get into WebAdmin?  If so, I would change the Shell Access passwords there and review your configuration for SSH.

    I recommend that you download PuTTy to use to access via SSH.  Download puttygen.exe to generate your public and private RSA keys for PuTTy and the UTM.  Once you have this configured, you can SSH in directly as root.  That will let you use WinSCP to copy files off the UTM onto your Windows machine.
