Hi all, Some specs from my device: I have a Sophos UTM 110/120/100 rev.5 from May 2014. I had to replace the harddrive. So I removed the broken hard drive and put a new SSD inside. Now I tried to install the ssi-9.600-5.1.iso on that box. I tried several approaches: I wrote the iso image ssi-9.600-5.1.iso to an USB stick and followed the instructions until reboot. I wrote the iso image ssi-9.600-5.1.iso to an USB external harddrive and followed the instructions until reboot. I wrote the iso image ssi-9.600-5.1.iso to an DVD and booted from external DVD drive and followed the instructions until reboot. So, the result out of all of this approaches is the following: UTM is starting like normal, but then the white screen with "Press F2 for details" is displayed. When I press F2 the following is displayed: Waiting for device /dev/disk/by-label/root to appear: ok Mounting root /dev/disk/by-label/root mount -o rw,data=ordered -t iso9660 /dev/disk/by-label/root /root mount: unknown filesystem _iso9660' could not mount root filesystem -- exiting to /bin/sh Could anybody point me into the right direction? What am i doing wrong or what am I missing? Kind regards.

You need to wipe the hdd completely to remove any traces of the incorrect ISO you installed previously, then try again. DBAN does a good job of this.

Sophos UTM 110/120 new harddrive - install of ssi-9.600-5.1.iso (UTM 9.6) impossible

Hi all,

Some specs from my device:

I have a Sophos UTM 110/120/100 rev.5 from May 2014.

I had to replace the harddrive.
So I removed the broken hard drive and put a new SSD inside.

Now I tried to install the ssi-9.600-5.1.iso on that box.

I tried several approaches:

I wrote the iso image ssi-9.600-5.1.iso to an USB stick and followed the instructions until reboot.
I wrote the iso image ssi-9.600-5.1.iso to an USB external harddrive and followed the instructions until reboot.

If you are using a home license, you are using the wrong image to install - I suspect this is the case. If you are using a UTM110/120 Hardware license (paid subscription) you should have contacted Sophos Support for a replacement. The "ssi" image is ONLY for paid hardware appliance subscriptions with a properly pre-configured hdd (only available from Sophos Support). IF you do have an active paid subscription to Sophos UTM Hardware in question, stop what you are doing, and contact Sophos Support (I suggest starting a case at https://myutm.sophos.com), they will be able to help you (they will likely swap the entire appliance for you, easier that way).

Assuming the former.. use this ISO: asg-9.600-5.1.iso

thanks for the fast reply.

I forgot to specify more, my settings.
I only want to use this appliance for home use, and want to install sophos hoe firewall.

I followed your advice and burned the following iso to cd and tried to install on my sophos 110/120/100

asg-9.600-5.1.iso

When I install, I get the following message:

ASG check failed: the installer is incompatible to the hardware The installation media is only for installations on NON sophos hardware. If you want to install on Sophos hardware please download an iso from http://download.astaro.com/UTM/v9/hardware_appliance/ and complete the installation.

On the download site you mentioned, there are the following Downloads:

UTM v9 hardware appliance --> ssi-9.600-5.1.iso

UTM v9 software appliance --> asg-9.600-5.1.iso

When I install the hardware iso the upper message is shown.
When I install the software appliance, I get the message from my initial posting.

I am totally sad that things are not working I as expected ...

Does anybody have other hints?

or... if you are good at linux, log into the shell on box and delete the /etc/asg file, then try again. That file is telling the Software ISO install that it is trying to install on a "licensed" UTM Hardware appliance... which is good behavior in most cases but not yours.

As I said, if you completely wiped the drive, it would have installed. DBAN is good for this.
