[9.165][BUG] Slow Outlook 2013 RPC/HTTPS access to Exchange when Web Protection is enabled

Did you do this with UTM 9.1 and have a similar problem, or is this new with 9.2?

Are you using standard or transparent mode?

Can you post a sample of the http.log (Web Filtering log in the UI)?

There is new diagnostic information in the log that include a bunch of ...time= entries that can help identify where problems may exist.

I didn't test it with 9.1 since I had webfiltering disabled with that version.

There is nothing in the logs that explains the slowness.

Yes, I'm using UTM as a transparent proxy (not Full Transparent).

When web filtering is disabled, launching Outlook takes 7,5 seconds.

When web filtering is enabled, the same process takes 20 seconds.

If you are not...  Sorry, I'm not sure what would be going on.  Check the firewall logs?

Yes, Outlook Anywhere is the way I connect to my mailbox at work. Settings are correct, the only difference is enabling the Webfiltering feature on UTM. It's not only startup that's slow when this is enable, the overall responsiveness of Outlook is sluggish (new mail, switch between mails, opening mails) once webfiltering is enabled. Firewall logs don't show anything useful (to me that is).

The Mantis ID #29299 is now under investigation.

We are having trouble reproducing this in house.  It took a while for us to get things configured to match the setup, but in our case loading outlook took the same amount of time and the "trying to connect" to the exchange server was almost exactly the same time.

One thing to try is in the configuration for Outlook Anywhere.  When you are in the Exchange Proxy Settings there are two options "On ... networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" which basically controls which it tries first.  Does changing this setting make any difference?

You could send us screenshots of your firewall rules but I suspect that won't make much of a difference.  Best would be if we had SSH access to your box.  If you are willing, send me PM with login details.

Does anyone else on the forum have experience with using Outlook Anywhere over the UTM?

Both settings in the Exchange proxy settings of outlook are checked, since I'm connecting over the internet to my mailbox I must use HTTP. Also, we are using Exchange 2013 and the only way to connect to it is using HTTP (even internal clients must use RPC over HTTP).

On my home box I only have one firewall rule that allows all outbound traffic.

Also, for which box do you need the SSH credentials? The box at home or the box at work where the Exchange server is located behind (this one is running UTM 9.106-17)
