When it comes to teh filter assigments what user or group do i add?

The Filter Assignment can be done with no user or group specified; just leave that part empty.

If you are doing SSO, then you certainly can assign a group.  If you have Active Directory, you might want to refer to: Configure HTTP-S Proxy with AD-SSO.

I have done that but it now seems that my wireless test cannot even get out as i am using it without proxy details do i need to set the proxy profile operation mode to transparent? or leave in standard mode?

i think you should set it to transparent ... else you have to enter the proxy details manualy in your browser.

Phil requested my document, and it does recommend "Transparent" mode for the Guest network.  This isn't because it's easier, it's because it allows using the 'Transparent mode skiplist' to ensure that "Internal (Network)" can't be reached via the proxy.  In "Standard" mode, the Guests could manipulate their own settings in their browser proxy configuration.

Phil, one thing the document assumes is that you've already added "Guest (Network)" to 'Allowed networks' on the 'Global' tab of 'HTTP/S'.  I don't know that that's needed now, but, at one point, a network had to be allowed globally in order for it to be available for the profiles.

Seems to now be working as my users get blocked from most sites via the policies, what it seems i needed to do was make the astaro box the default gateway on dhcp (ie 172.16.28.1), now all i have as an issue is trying to block the network from seeing my internal setup even with the following policies in place on my packet filter

damn that will teach me to copy and paste, I have the following packet rules in this order

Wireless guest n/w - to - Internal network - Any - deny

wireless guest n/w - to - internet - outgoing services - allow

wireless guest n/w - to - any - dns service - allow
