  • If my understanding is correct, you don’t have a Sophos Firewall (Hardware/Virtual or Cloud) and you also do not have a host-based firewall (Windows Firewall)

That being, You cannot perform the steps you mentioned above without a Sophos Firewall. (Does not matter if you do have or don't have a Windows Firewall)

Should you need a "VPN" client for accessing internal resources, you may opt to use another open-source VPN client. You may manually setup the configuration file on where you're trying to connect and other end must have your authentication details and other settings as necessary (basically a Client-Server Connection) since you do not have a Sophos Firewall where you can download the client, and the configuration file that you have configured on the firewall. - that does this with its own UI and outlined procedures.

On the other hand, if the context and usage of the "VPN" you're trying to use are similar to those of other VPN apps, where it connects to a specific country/server to encrypt traffic/bypass ISP/FW rules/ etc., then RA SSL VPN of Sophos Firewall is not intended for this use.

Hope this helps you with your concern.
