Sophos XG 125w - 5G Wifi not working

Hey Guys,

I have an issue whereby the 5G wifi will not work on my Sophos XG 125w.

Firmware: SFOS 17.5.11 MR-11
AP Firmware: 11.0.012
The wifi was configured via the wizard.

All devices find the 2.4Ghz band, but never the 5G band. I've tried connecting with multiple devices that support 5G but they all revert to 2.4Ghz. I've also tried manually setting the wifi adapter in device manager on one of the Windows 10 laptops to 5G only, but then the wifi network isn't even detected. I've tried setting the Sophos to 5G only but I get this error (same error if I try to create a new 5G only SSID).

Any ideas what I can do next for troubleshooting?

  • Hey guys,

Thanks for your help, I think I got somewhere. In the end deleted all of the wireless networks and started from scratch as the default one created by the wizard was just giving an error when trying to select 5G only.

I then created a new wifi network from scratch with only 5G selected and this let me save and clients are now correctly connecting with 5G. Success!

However, with the 5G SSID linked to the default "LocalWifi0" AP, I get an error when trying to include a 2.4Ghz SSID. I also don't get an option to create a second AP that I could use to assign with a 2.4Ghz SSID.

So, is this the limitation of the wifi in the XG 125w that you guys were talking about, whereby you can't have both 5G and 2.4Ghz running at the same time? Or should I be able to create a 2nd AP and have both 5G and 2.4G running at the same time?

  • Hi Aaron,

you can have a number of SSIDs as long as they are on 2.4ghz or 5ghz, not both. You need another external AP to provide 2,4ghz.
