Hello everybody!
First off, I really like the Sophos mobile security for Android app. It gives me peace of mind, I must say.
Only thing that, in my opinion, still has room for improvement is the call / SPAM blocker.
It is great to have the whitelisting option which allows you to accept calls from parties which are saved in your contacts list. I set the following options (which probably most users will do who really have enough of cold calls): block all calls without ID (CLIR) and block all calls execept for numbers from your contact list.
The only problem now is, how the call blocker behaves: it basically first accepts the call (you hear a short ringing tone as the caller) and then rejects the call (pretty much like pressing the red / on-hook button) which leads to the call being redirected to your voice mail. I don't think this is a good solution as it won't help to stop SPAM / cold calls. What these guys often do is to test phone numbers with their dialing Software (so-called ping calls). Once there is a ringing tone (ALERT signaling) on a specific number (or a voice mail answering), this number will be saved to their lists and your phone will never stop ringing and your voice mail will spill over with messages.
In my opinion, it is crucial that the phone call / SPAM blocker really rejects the call in the network if it does not apply to the whitelist. This is how the Android on-board tool behaves if you want to block a specific number, only problem here is that you can only blacklist numbers, not whitelist them.
So, dear application programmers, I really appreciate your great work! I would be even deeply grateful if you could enhance the phone call blocker by really rejecting calls in the network without signaling an ALERT to the calling party and without redirecting it then to the voice mail (e.g. Receiver Not Ready, RNR or Reject, REJ).
Thank you!!
Cheers,
