Application control is a Sophos security feature that lets you detect and block applications which are not a security threat but may be an application that you wish to control in your environment. It is available in Sophos Central for Windows and macOS environments.

Controlled applications are any programs or games, that can be blocked or allowed for different groups of computers, depending on productivity or security concerns. The list of applications that Application Control can manage is updated regularly by Sophos. It now includes popular Office applications, as these are also misused in Cyber Security events and more are planned to be added. Please review your Application Control policy settings and if you have selected the option “New applications added to this category by Sophos” ensure that this is still appropriate.
