Register using OTP

We've been registering our client firewalls in Sophos Central with an email alias that links to a single main email we use. This works for us since then all firewall alerts get emailed to that email address the alias lives under.

I tried the option to register using OTP today, which was nice as it eliminated the need for us to create another alias email. However, I noticed that doing it this way, it shows as registered to my email address in the Sophos Central configuration on the XGS.

My question, when using the OTP to register a firewall, short of logging in to Sophos Central with the main email, is it possible for another email to be displayed under the Email: for the Sophos Central registration?

  • HI Mike,

no this is not possible, it will show your email address (e.g. your Sophos Central Account) because you generated the OTP. So when joining the Firewall to Sophos Central it knows which Central Instance to use and registers it there.

Email Alerting is however handled by Sophos Central, so if the firewall ends up in the correct Sophos Central Account then all administrators of that account will receive the firewall alerts (unless specific email rules were defined under Global Settings > Configure Email Alerts).

    Cheers,
    Marcel

  • Thank you  for the answer.

I noticed when I register with OTP, I get a notice that the OTP expires in 14 days. Does this mean I need to renew the Sophos Central connection with a new OTP every 14 days?

  • Hi Mike,

no, once you link Sophos Firewall to Sophos Central the connection between the both will stay in place. You do not have to generate and apply a new OTP to keep them connected.

Personally I do not remember getting a notification that my OTP was to expire, could it be that you generated more than one OTP and did not use one of them?
