Data Disk Filling Up Issue

Hey guys;

Data Disk is filling up - please check. Current usage: 75%


I've gotten a few email alerts already on this.  75% of 3.5G in the dashboard..and I know 3.5G isn't alot, but for now it's all I got.  It's been fine for years anyways.    I'm running 8.2, is there an easy way to clear all the logs/cache etc?  I don't care about keeping the reporting, or anything I just want to free up the space entirely.

    Check out Bruce's suggestion https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/53/t/33431 . That is the most obvious reason due to core dumps in 8.2x. You can delete them safely for home use. rm * with root privileges

    I Read that entire thread and was a little confused on how to remove it.  I didn't see anything specific?   I've never messed around in the shell.  I put in my root username/password and got in... and confused on where to go from there?  Doing an RM * does nothing.

    Doing an RM * does nothing.

    cd /var/storage/cores 

    ls (LS lower case) to see if there are any files in that directory. If there are then rm* to remove them all.

    That worked!  I wonder if I should allocate more than 3.5G for that partition?   What are the files in there from?  They were mostly http type files...

    cache I guess

    Probably possible but too much trouble. The partition manager does a decent job of assigning partitions depending on your hard disk size and normally you wouldn't have any problems with the disk size.
    What are the files in there from?  They were mostly http type files... 

    The files are core dumps left for trouble shooting by the developers when a daemon crashes unexpectedly, mostly http proxy crash dumps for certain users. These are not http cache files and can be deleted safely. The proxy has improved immensely in 8.3 beta so far and I haven't seen any core dumps.
