How can I locate a device when the SMC is listed as non compliant due to sync times

We have a compliance policy that makes a device non-compliant when devices have not synced the SMC app after 2 weeks. As soon as this happens we can no longer locate a device (lost or stolen).

We do not have a DEP setup so users have to manually sync the app (why doesn't it auto-sync when you connect to the internet?).

Is there any way to get locations of devices without changing the compliance policy to either off/4weeks?

 

Note: DEP is being assessed for upgrade

    Unfortunately, this is only possible in the supervised mode that is if DEP has been setup. It won't be possible to locate the device if it is non-compliant.
