Sophos Anti-Virus service fails to start

We have several clients machines that stopped displaying the Sophos shield in the system tray. When I look at the services I notice that the Sophos Anti-Virus service is not running, so I right click on it and attempt to start it. I get an error message

"WIndows could not start the Sophos Anti-Virus service on Local COmputer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vender, and refer to the specific error code -2147467259." When I look at the event log it is flooded with EVENT ID 0's comining from Sourrce Sophos AntiVirus Description: Exception caught in CInfrastructureModule::PreMessageLoop.

I also see Event ID 1000

What do I need to do so that the Sophos Anti-Virus will start running again?

Hello 1111,
there's an old thread with almost the same subject: Sophos Anti-Virus service will not start - while it might be useful I think that the ALsvc issue needs to be resolved first. Does the Sophos AutoUpdate service run and do the endpoints attempt to update at regular intervals or just after boot?

Hello everybody,
on a Windows 7 Pro PC I have the same problem as 1111. I read also the article suggest by QC, but doesn't work... Sophos Antivirus service will not start.... and the client seems not to be connected to my Console...
What can I do more?
