Update Manager Can't Update, Decode Operation Failed Pointing to Checksum of Setup.exe

Here's the log entry:

4/19/2017 3:36:01 PM Error Decode operation failed when decoding product release 'A845A8B5-6532-4EF1-B19E-1DB2B3CB73D1'. Details: Checksum error: f5f3350afd95e4d24e73c2705d9458fcx000 -> Setup.exe

If I delete Setup.exe does it recreate one? How should I proceed here?

Thanks.

  • Hello David Huang,

there's perhaps more than one Setup.exe. And yes, it would recreate it (actually it would just copy f5f3350afd95e4d24e73c2705d9458fcx000.dat from %ProgramData%\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse\ and rename it. The error is in the .dat file which doesn't have the expected checksum f5f3350afd95e4d24e73c2705d9458fc. It's best to empty the \Warehouse and either wait for the next update cycle or use Update now from the Update Managers view.

  • Should I copy the files to a temporary location or will it repopulate the entire folder when I hit Update Now?

  • Hello David Huang,

all of the Warehouse will be rebuilt. Admittedly it's some "waste of bandwidth" but the best way to get a consistent state.

  • I'm having issues right now with deleting the warehouse folder. I'm a full administrator and domain admin but it keeps telling me that I need permission from Administrator or Network Service.

  • Hallo David Huang,

\Warehouse\ (and its contents) should inherit its permissions from %ProgramData%\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\, Full Control for SYSTEM, NETWORK SERVICE and Administrators, Read and Execute for Users and the SUM account (e.g. SophosUpdateMgr). You did try from Explorer? On my 2008R2 there's no folder with a lock on the path so normal NTFS behaviour is expected.
