Failed to update Sophos Update Manager due to an unexpected error. Details: Insufficient parameters - Self-Updater improperly call

One of our Update Managers is failing to update. Usually a reboot sorts it, but not this time. The Error in the event log is: Failed to update Sophos Update Manager due to an unexpected error. Details: Insufficient parameters - Self-Updater improperly called. Event ID 16433

    Hello 1heds,

    SUMSelfUpdater used to write a log but this is apparently no longer the case. The SUMTrace logs should have lines containing Cmd-ALL << [I1021][ActionSelfUpdate-SDDM] - guess the error is also reported in one of the following lines, can't say though if there's additional and useful information.
    No idea who or what makes or causes the improper call (if I'd have to name a suspect it'd be SUM_Status.xml), IMO it's advisable to contact Support directly in this case.

    Got the SUM working again by following these instructions:

    On the SUM Server:
     1) Stop all the Sophos Services in this order:

    Sophos Message Router service

    SophosCertification Manager service

    SophosAgent Service

    Sophos Update Manager service

    Sophos Managment service

    2) Then please navigate down to this directory C: program files x86 > sophos

    > enterprise console OR SCC > SUM or Update Manager 

    and delete these xml files

    SUM_status.xml

    SUM_status.xml~

    specialactions.xml

    specialactions.xml~

    3)Clear the Envelopes
    folder:  \ProgramData\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Router\Envelopes\ 
    4.)Rename working folder
    "workingOLD"  C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Update Manager\ 

    5.) Rename the Warehouse

    folder as well as the CIDs folder "warehouseOLD" & "CIDsOLD":

    C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse 

    6.)  restart all the sophos services in this order

    Sophos Message Router service

    Sophos Certification Manager service

    Sophos Agent Service

    Sophos Update Manager service

    Sophos Managment service

    7.) restart the console go the update manager right click on the appriopriate SUM and choose view edit configuration and then in the "sources" tab please remove the sophos entry

         add the Sophos entry back in

         add the EM/Sophos Username-password 

         hit ok

    8.) you should now see the SUM status as downloading binaries, once this is done  30 to 45 mins, your SUM will be  working fine and error will go away.
