Cannot uninstall Sophos so easily / request administrator password

Hello Sophos Community

I am an IT Help Desk Specialist at Cupertino Union School District.  99% of our end-point devices are Apple products; Mac Book Pro 13" laptops, iPads, iMac.  We do have a small percentage of PC systems used by our District/Administrative staff.

I have been testing and evaluating Sophos End-Point Protection and Sophos Antivirus, in which I feel like the products are pretty solid.  The issues I am having with Sophos and which is why lead me to posting my experiences and inquiries here are:

1.  I find that trying to uninstall Sophos on Mac system after the evaluation is completed is a painful task.  And I have not been able to successfully performed any removal of Sophos yet.  When I try to click on the app icon to remove Sophos, I am greeted with a menu asking me to provide an administrator password to proceed and I do not remembered ever activating an administrator password when I installed the eval version of Sophos.   Anyone experience this issue and have suggestions on how I can get pass this point?

2.  I found that having Sophos running on MacBook Pro and iMacs can significantly slowed down system performance and user's experiences.   Not sure if Sophos is aware of this and do you have any suggestion on what I can do to prevent Sophos from running in the background and slowing down system because of active scans?

Thank you in advance for any tips and suggestions to help me with these two issues.

Best,

Vinh Le

  • Hello Vinh Le,

    1) uninstall [...] is a painful task
How to remove ... has a detailed description - you definitely did have to enter administrator credentials when installing, or are you referring to Tamper Protection? Is this the Central version?

    2) significantly slowed down
naturally there is some overhead but it shouldn't result in a significant general slowdown. Web Protection might have a noticeable impact with certain sites but this applies only to browsing.
