Is it possible to do an unattended install?

I'm looking to include Sophos for some basic virus scanning on an Ubuntu box. Everything works as expected when I manually walk through the installation. All of my boxes are managed using Chef so I'd prefer to use this to install Sophos without any manual intervention.

I've tried reading through all the documentation I can find but haven't come across what I'm looking for. Is this possible? If so, how?

Cheers,

Nathan

  • Hello Nathan,

I'm not familiar with Chef, but - did you come across mkinstpkg?

  • Hi Christian,

Thanks for the response. Essentially there is nothing special about what I'm doing with Chef, I just need to be able to run the install script without having to interactively configure it.

I hadn't come across mkinstpkg before thanks. I tried it out, and it seemed to be straight forward, but I can't configure it to automatically update from the internet, it just skips that question and asks where the files are available from locally. Any ideas?
