On-Access scanning is disabled in Sophos Home Edition version 9.4.0

I have just installed Sophos Home Edition version 9.4.0 on my Mac which is running version 10.10.5. And I find that the "On-access scanning is disabled".  When I try to start it via the sophos preferences, it will not let me actually start the on-access scanning.  It says, in preferences, "The on-access scanner is off" and beside it it says "Starting..." in a grayed-out box, which I cannot change.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

  • I'm experiencing this issue today, all of the sudden On-Access Scan is disabled, none of the proposed solutions (deletion of files in the in /Library/Caches/com.sophos...) brings it back to life.

Only way I could, eventually, solve it was by logging out. I hope this doesn't happen again, but if it happened once, and because the cause is probably still there, it will happen again.
