Cant uninstall

I had to reinstall OSX, and afterwards. I had a few "kext" files that were corrupted or otherwise not working properly. I was able to delete all of them (about 5, and they were mostly device drivers like my wacom tablet and 360 controller.) However, Sophos has been completely unusable. I can not uninstall the program. I can try to reinstall the program, and although it tells me the install failed, it still shows in my applications and can run. It will not however, run on access scanning nor will it stay in my menu bar. I'm stumped. I've tried every uninstall tool on this site and they all say "failed to uninstall." I really like sophos. Can someone please help?

  • Hey Ty,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. One thing you can try is the uninstall tool, but if that doesn't work, you can try a manual uninstall by following these steps.

To remove the product manually, remove everything in the following list:

     /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus /Library/LaunchDaemos/com.sophos.*
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.sophos.*
    /Library/Preferences/com.sophos.*
    /Library/Logs/Sophos Anti-Virus.log
    /Applications/Sophos Anti-Virus.app
    /Applications/Sophos Remove.app
    /var/db/receipts/com.sophos.*

You'll need administrative rights to remove most of those files. Then reboot, to ensure everything is cleared from memory too. Then run through the list again, to ensure you got everything.

Warning: Be cautious when deleting things in some of those directories. Not everything in there is related to our software - our files contain the name "Sophos".

Hope that helps, good luck! Let me know if you're still having trouble.
