"An Incompatible product is installed" : Migrating from SAV Enterprise Ver 7.x to SAV HE 9.x

Some similar threads on here but none seem to fix this particular problem:

I have an enterprise copy of SAV v7.xx on my mac and my organisation no longer provide support/updates for this.  I ran the uninstall program from within the from the/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/ folder.  Folder, app and icon in top bar all vanished, as expected.

i then went to install SAV HE v9.x and got the "An Incompatible product is installed" error.

Is there some other uninstall app i can run or can someone tell me where what HE is finidng to think it is still installed so I can manually delete it?

    Have you tried a reboot first?  Maybe help as the next step.  Otherwise see what is left from the following list:


    /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus
    /Library/LaunchDaemos/com.sophos.*
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.sophos.*
    /Library/Preferences/com.sophos.*
    /Library/Logs/Sophos Anti-Virus.log
    /Applications/Sophos Anti-Virus.app
    /Applications/Sophos Remove.app
    /var/db/receipts/com.sophos.*

    You'll need administrative rights to remove most of those files. Then reboot, to ensure everything is cleared from memory too. Then run through the list again, to ensure you got everything.

    Warning: Be cautious when deleting things in some of those directories. Not everything in there is related to our software - our files contain the name "Sophos".

    Very helpful, but I also had to delete the following two files that were lingering from an old version:

    1. /Library/Extensions/SophosNetworkInterceptor.kext
    2. /Library/Extensions/SophosOnAccessInterceptor.kext
