Remove Sophos But No Tamper Protection Password

Hi,

I would like to remove all traces of Sophos from my Mac, but it keeps prompting me for a Tamper Protection Password. I never set up such a password and do not recall being given one either. All I want is to remove the product from my Mac.

  • So I did a little digging, to change the password  follow these steps:

    1:open services.msc

    2: stop Sophos Anti-Virus

    3: open notepass as admin

    4: open C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\Config\machine.xml

    5:Find the below and change xxxxxxxxx to E8F97FBA9104D1EA5047948E6DFB67FACD9F5B73

    </DeviceControlManager>
    <TamperProtectionManagement><settings>
    <password>xxxxxxxxx</password><enabled>true</enabled></settings>
    </TamperProtectionManagement>

    6: start Sophos Anti-Virus

    7:open sophos and the password will be password YAY

    8:question the purpose of this "security feature"

  • Here is the Fix for the mac side.

    **You can remove Sophos by doing the following

    1. 1. Open Terminal and run the following command:
      cd /Library/Application\ Support/Sophos/cloud/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/tools/
    2. Run the following command:
      sudo ./InstallationDeployer --remove --tamper_password <pw>

    If you lost the tamper protection password you can just run

    sudo ./InstallationDeployer —force_remove

    Tamper protection might still remain even after removal.

    cd /Library/Preferences

    sudo rm com.sophos.sav.plist

    TAMPER PROTECTION my KEYBOARD!!! (replace keyboard with profanity word for rear end)
