Hello,

The Time Machine issue which caused slow back-ups in 9.5.2 is now resolved in 9.5.3. The rollout starts today and you will be automatically upgraded. The rollout is staggered, but everyone should have 9.5.3 by October 26th.

Regards,

  • Hi Bob. Yes I am using Sierra, but I have seen other reports of the "preparing Backup" hang from both El Capitan and Yosemite. I used SAV all through the Sierra beta program with no problem until the general release at which time SAV 9.5.2 was also released - so I'm guessing the problem was introduced in 9.5.2. The Strongest symptom, other than TM hanging in the preparing backup status is high cpu usage (90%+) of the "backupd" task. Another IMPORTANT note is that the problem only occurs when backing up to a network backup device (Apple Time Capsule, NAS etc.) If I limit TM backups to only locally attached (i.e. USB) devices the TM backup appears to proceed normally. Others have also posted GB's of log entries showing specific errors related to the hang/loop.
