Sophos suddenly not running

Have never had any problems until now. Suddenly I start my iMac (10.7.5) and I get a msg that Sophos isn't running. The menu bar icon is greay with an X in it. I have reviewed all the preferences, see nothing that I changed. Says the on-access scanner is not running, everything is grayed out. If I run a scan it takes about a half a second. What could suddenly cause thi s and why can't I seem to fix it?

  • I encountered the same problem.  I've rebooted 4 times.  When I try to enable the on-access scanner in Preferences, I see only "Stopping..." in the field I click to enable it.  It does not change.  I had recently reinstalled Sophos.
