Version 9.5.2 Released Today

Hello everyone,

We just released Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition version 9.5.2 to all users today. This version has been in "preview" status for a couple of months and we've had great feedback. Thanks to the people who installed the preview, we got more than seven thousand installs since its availability in early June.

You should see approximately a 30mb download followed by the update. As mentioned a long time ago, we do not support macOS 10.6 or 10.7 any longer, and the installation will fail. We do fully support macOS 10.8 and up, and this version should correct the updating issue seen on later versions of the Sierra 10.12 public beta builds.

Thanks for your support and let us know about issues you encounter.

  • Hi Bob, trying to give someone a link to download the Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition, but only finding the Home (cloud) version. Is it still available anywhere?

Also, is Sophos still actively devoting resources to removing adware on-access? Wondering if I can recommend it for that purpose?

Sorry for the dupe. For some reason, getting access denied when I try to delete the earlier one.

    Hello,

I do not believe the AV for Mac HE link is available anymore, I have looked myself and can't find it. Unfortunately I do not have any insight into where our resources are currently being deployed but removing adware, malware and PUA is our business, so we definitely are working in this area.

    Regards,

    Bob

  • I gave someone this link, which was for the 9.5 preview/beta. It's what I used some time ago for the 9.5 HE, will that still bring in the 9.5 Mac HE (to be automatically updated to the 9.5.2)? Is it still working?

  • Hi Bob

I'm experiencing the same issue but with sparse bundle disk images. I haven't tested with Time Machine but I have read that TM uses sparse bundles.

Symptoms are high CPU usage by SophosScanD when I mount a sparse bundle disk image on a USB stick. I have tried excluding the volume but it doesn't appear to fix the issue. When I eject the volume normal CPU usage resumes.

OS is macOS 10.12 Sierra (16A323) with Sophos Home Cloud 1.2.0 - I haven't tested with Sophos AV Home Edition (Classic)

    Look forward to a fix.

    Thanks in advance

    Tim

That link doesn't take me anywhere :)

  •

Thanks Tim, we are trying to get that out asap!

    Bob

The one I gave above doesn't parse properly. The link given at Bob Cook's post (6/10/16) for the 9.5 Preview/Beta

    community.sophos.com/.../77784

brings me to the EULA, where if I hit the Accept button, I'm brought to the Software Export Compliance form (what's that all about anyway? I've never seen that from any other software download.) Not ready to re-submit that, but I'm guessing that, if one follows that all the way through, it will bring in the original 9.5 beta. That, in turn, I'm supposing will be automatically updated to the current 9.5.2.

  •

Yes I believe you are correct. Export compliance forms are fairly common in my experience.

    Bob

Export from where? Never seen that from any download in the US.

  • Hi, regarding Time Machine Issues with Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac v 9.5.2, I have had my computer repeatedly crash during a VERY slow time machine backup due to a kernel panic.  It has happened ever since the auto update to 9.5.2 earlier this month but I hadn't read the forum to see that others were experiencing somewhat similar problems.  My kernel panic always lists the Sophos ScanD process and a Zlib kext at the start of the crash log.  I am pasting the full log below in case it is helpful to trouble shoot the issue.  My Time Machine backup lives on an NAS drive on my local home network.  Never had an issue like this before the 9.5.2 update.  I haven't tried disabling the on access scanner to see if this matters but I'll try that when I'm home tonight.

    Thanks,

    Chris G.
