Version 9.5.2 Released Today

Hello everyone,

We just released Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition version 9.5.2 to all users today. This version has been in "preview" status for a couple of months and we've had great feedback. Thanks to the people who installed the preview, we got more than seven thousand installs since its availability in early June.

You should see approximately a 30mb download followed by the update. As mentioned a long time ago, we do not support macOS 10.6 or 10.7 any longer, and the installation will fail. We do fully support macOS 10.8 and up, and this version should correct the updating issue seen on later versions of the Sierra 10.12 public beta builds.

Thanks for your support and let us know about issues you encounter.

  • I too am seeing the Time Machine slow down that others are seeing with 9.5.2. My Mac was away getting repaired and when it came back I noticed the slow down, I thought the repair was bad!

I had already excluded my Time Machine backup location from the on-access scanning but with 9.5.2 it just crawls. The only way to make Time Machine do its thing quickly is to disable on-access scanning.

Are you aware of this Bob?

  • Update on the Time Machine issue: We are aware of it internally and working on getting a fix out. This thread will be updated once we have a release window.

    Thank you,

    Bob

  • Hi Bob

I'm experiencing the same issue but with sparse bundle disk images. I haven't tested with Time Machine but I have read that TM uses sparse bundles.

Symptoms are high CPU usage by SophosScanD when I mount a sparse bundle disk image on a USB stick. I have tried excluding the volume but it doesn't appear to fix the issue. When I eject the volume normal CPU usage resumes.

OS is macOS 10.12 Sierra (16A323) with Sophos Home Cloud 1.2.0 - I haven't tested with Sophos AV Home Edition (Classic)

    Look forward to a fix.

    Thanks in advance

    Tim

Thanks Tim, we are trying to get that out asap!

    Bob
