Sophos VRT update

I have same issue as AnnMoriaty.  I have downloaded Sophos VRT several times since I got the "expired" message.  I have used Regedit to clear all mentions of Sophos.  No matter what I do, once I have reinstalled from the latest download, the same message appears telling me product has expired.  Very annoying.

  • That's a small "misalignment" on Sophos' side. They current version is 2.5.0.0, and that's what you have installed. There will be a new release by the end of this month. That is by schedule. Because of that, this expiration date is built-in into SVRT. Since it has reached this date, and a new version SHOULD be available by now, it shows you that alert. Meaning, it's not that the software checked and found a new version and is letting you know. It didn't check and didn't find a new version. It's just by schedule, and a new version is NOT yet available.

In short, check for a new version in another 2 weeks. Until then, use SVRT and disregard the warning.

  • Thanks for the update.  The only problem is that because of the Expired message, Sophos doesn't update the virus definitions.  Anyway I have solved problem.

    1) Uninstall Sophos and reboot PC

    2) Install downloaded version of Sophos and reboot PC (before opening sophos).

Sophos then seems to happy and runs as normal

  • Your comment made me think that they must've already released the next version, and what you downloaded was the newer version, and that's why the issue is "solved" So, I went and downloaded. Did not uninstall my existing SVRT. Checked the version of the installation file, and it's still v2.5.5.0. Same as what I have installed, so it's not an update. SO now I was confused. I ran my installed SVRT, and no more warning. It was alerting me the last few days, and now it stopped. Weird. So, I think that SVRT just stopped alerting, and there was no need to uninstall/reinstall. Very weird. Anyway, there still should be a new version out in about 2 weeks

  • FYI, the new version is now available for download. They put it up last Thursday. They forgot one thing, which might confuse you. After you download the installation file, if you check its properties, it says that its version is 2.5.5.0. They forgot to update that. But it actually installs v2.5.6. You can also see that this file is a different size than the 2.5.5.0 installation file. That was 149MB, and this one is 143.7MB.

Before installing the new version, you'll need to uninstall the existing v2.5.5.0
