Latest version NOT working with El Capitan Public Beta

It is not really an issue/complaint because one cannot expect the product to work with a beta of an OS but I figured I will make a post here to confirm that there is no work around until an updated build is pushed for Sophos Antivirus for Mac Home Edition.

After I upgraded to Public Beta for Mac OSX El Capitan (10.11), the Auto Update and Antivirus stopped working. I uninstalled and tried to install again (latest download from the site) but that failed after partial installation. I guess the installer will be updated at or after the stable release of OSZX El Capitan

  • I also got this problem and can't reinstall

  • Same with me.  Installed yesterday and to my dismay found that Sophos stopped functioning.  Sophos is a great free product and I hope that it will be fully operational when El Capitan goes live.

Any chance to Beta test Sophos as well??

  • Hi Infectious,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, but you're unfortuantely you're right. SAV currently *should* work if it's already installed prior to your upgrade to the beta, but doing a fresh install on El Capitain is expected to fail.

We're currently working on a new release, which will be available prior to the full release of El Capitain later this fall.

  • While Sophos AV appeared to continue to work on El Capitan public beta, after some hours I came back to my Mac Pro to find a message box stating that there was an error, that Sophos was not running.

I got into the console and did a search for "Sophos" and found the following messages, which may or may not be of use:

  • Hope  we can get the update version recently.....

  • It looks like a may be in the same boat. Is anyone else having trouble installing a different anti virus program after previously having sophos installed?

    :1021295
  • Hi,

My MacBook slowed down from 140 Mbps to only 14 Mpbs after I updated it to El Capitan.

I don't have any other issue with Capitan. It works much better than Yosemite (more stable, better performance in PS etc...).

It seems Sophos slowed it down. I uninstalled Sophos and now my MacBook speeds to 140 Mbps again.

So I would suggest to temporarily uninstall Sophos if you're running El Capitan.

    Regards
  • I had it installed before updating to El Capitan, it stopped working after upgrading, it won't let me install the update, nor will it let me uninstall SAV 9.4.0 - I can't even delete the version that won't run on my Mac from my Mac…
