Limited Support for Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 through October 2015

Hello everyone,

There are changes to be aware of in our support for older versions of Mac OS X starting November 1, 2014. This isn't really new news but I thought it would be useful to post this message as an alert for people thinking about upgrading or maintaining their Macs during 2015.

Starting November 1, 2014 we are only offering Limited Support for Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7. By Limited Support we mean:

This extended maintenance period means that Sophos will continue to test and release new versions of the Virus Engine and/or Virus Data Library as part of the release calendar. Only critical product issues will be addressed during this stage, these can include hotfixes, vulnerabilities or improvements to protection at Sophos’’’’s discretion.

We intend to discontinue support for Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 as of October 31, 2015. You should expect the product will no longer allow new installations on those platforms, any existing installations will no longer automatically update to newer versions, and protection will likely degrade within a few months.

  • But 10.6, no longer supported by Apple, is EXACTLY where Sophos is most necessary. More recent OSs, perhaps not at all or only marginally useful. Snow is still widely used.

How much extra work is it to keep writing for this OS? Please reconsider.

    Hello marialzbth,

This is a question for the vendor of the other security system. Its possible their installer is discovering logs, or perhaps some information from the Apple Installer, about our product. Feel free to suggest that the support team from the other vendor contact me directly if they are stuck.

  • This is email I sent to Sophos tech support, which turned out to be their corporate support.  So, the simplest explanation of my delimna is the repeat it here:  The home computer I'm using is a Mac Pro, model 3,1, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.     Approximately 11/2 to 2 years ago, I subscribed to a trial version. then dragged from Applications folder to trash thinking I successfully uninstalled it.  With help of Apple tech, had discovered your app is still actively running in background, but could not find an uninstall feature, given I had dragged the Sophos app icon to trash not long after downloading it, as I realized that I would not be using this app.

Can you please help me with the tool to completely uninstall the sophos application despite my not knowing the version I had?

    Thanks for your help

  • To append my question per uninstalling Sopos, the easiest solution seemed to completely erase the drive, reinstall OS, then migrate applications.
