on access disabled

all of a sudden after updating this morning I get this message saying on access is disabled.  I go into preferences and sure enough, it is.  I hit the button to restart it and it just stops again, disabling itself.  Anyone know how to fix this???

I've got a mac air running mavericks.

  • Same behavior here. Mac Home AV version 9.2.2, Mavericks, MBAir running Yosemite. I was traveling and didn't boot my computer for a few days, but it was fine before and now it's just suddenly doing exactly the same as the OP's version.

  • I have the same problem with Sophos 9.2.2/OSX10.8.5. Log reports "main virus data file is missing Sophos cannot continue". I have made no changes to settings and got this warning when the computer had been ruuning for some hours.

  • Hello,

have the same issue. No chance to scan the hard disk anymore, because Sophos can't find valid virus file. In addition no online scanner offline and impossible reactivate.

Did anybody follow the suggested route of deinstallation and fixed this way the problem?

  • Same problem as others - on-access scanning suddenly stopped (after an update failed). Manual update worked OK, but when I tried to restart on-access scanning that failed. Console log showed repeated message 'Fatal Error: The main virus data file is missing'

(Using OS X 10.8.5 and SAV HE 9.2.2)

Instructions to uninstall and reinstall a fresh copy worked OK and on-access scanning working again.

  • In spite of on access being disabled, I can still do a manual scan reporting no threats. Surely it needs the file to scan?
