Problem with Boxcryptor

I have a MacBook Pro with Yosemite. I am using free Sophos anti virus. I also use Boxcryptor (https://www.boxcryptor.com). Within Boxcryptor -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Volume I have activated "Mount as local disk" and "Mount for all users". A mounted disk named Boxcryptor shows on my desktop.

Before Boxcryptor the number of files that Sophos would scan using "Scan this Mac" was around 700000. Now the number of files is around 37000000!!

By trial and error (scans on specific targets) I have tracked down the extra 36 million files to the mounted Boxcryptor disk. Under the "Scan this Mac" scan I have excluded /Volumes/Boxcryptor but this does not reduce the number of files. This format works to exclude network volumes.

Can someone explain why my exclusion "/Volumes/Boxcryptor" is not working.

Many thanks.

  • I remember someone posting something similar before - about Time Machine.  The behavior is that even though an exclusion is added the calculated number of files does not reduce when the scan starts, however the scan does obey the exclusion and stop as required.

I created a video at the time demoing the behavior with Time Machine...

...it shows that when the scan starts it does count all files, but it doesn't actually scan them and stops as required - with a bunch of files left excluded.

The question then is: Does the scan take any longer with the excluded volume mounted and hence the exclusion actually is being ignored?
