Sophos Home Premium features request

Hello, I recently purchased Home Premium for personal use. However, I'm struggling with how the web filtering works, perhaps I'm missing something or the product itself is missing these basic asks:

1. I can't seem to setup web filtering for specific users on the PC. The web filtering seems to apply to the entire PC, I thought the 'Premium' version would allow this?

2. The web filtering logs are extremely painful to sift through, why can't I simply download the logs in a csv format at least? this can't be a difficult ask?

3. I can't figure out how to install Sophos Home Premium on the Chromebooks...if there are Android versions available for Sophos I'm not seeing why Chromebooks would be that much more difficult

4. Speaking of Android versions why can't those be controlled through the central dashboard?

5. Some of the websites show blocked in the logs but they are accessible (latest version of Sophos Home Premium as of this writing).

I also feel the Kaspersky parental controls are more mature. Anyway, hopefully the product development team will take note as these are not difficult asks for a paid product and there are competing products that have similar or better features.

  • I can't speak for the Home product but all your asks are available in the Sophos Central product.  I.e.

    • User and/or device based policies.
    • APIs or export the logs to PDF/CSV.
    • Chomebook is covered as are iPhone, Android, Windows etc can be controlled.

    One thing you may be able to make use of for web protection/control reporting are a few registry DWORD values under:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sophos\Web Intelligence\

    They don't exit by default but you can create:

    • DecisionLogChannels
    • DecisionLogMaxBytes
    • DecisionLogMaxDays

    If you set DecisionLogChannels DWORD to 15 (decimal), under: C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Web Intelligence\Logs you will have a tab delimited file of all sites seen rather than the default of just blocks/warns. The other 2 can configure retention.

    They will be picked up within a few seconds, no need to restart anything.

  • Thank you I appreciate the direction there but I think the Home product is quite a bit different (stripped down). If the logs require registry changes I can't do that on my kids' machine who is away. I guess I'm just asking the logs that I already see in the dashboard to be available in the csv format so I can sort/filter/search in order to help troubleshoot access issues.

    Hoping someone from Sophos will respond and let us know what works and what doesn't or if it's going to be on the roadmap.
