Sophos Virus Removal Tool Won't Update

I downloaded the Sophos Virus Removal Tool onto an old computer running Windows XP.  When I try to run the Virus Removal Tool, I receive a message stating that it failed to update.  Any suggestions on how to get it to update?

    Hello jnick,

    guess Sophos has finally pulled the plug w.r.t. XP. While the download page apparently hasn't been updated for a long time and lists XP SP2 as supported the SVRT FAQs article (updated 5 May) has Windows 7 minimum (and BTW much higher numbers for disk space and RAM).
