Firefox is giving me frequent "The connection was reset" messages - is Sophos not treating Firefox as a trusted application or similar?

Firefox often doesn't take me to previously visited sites right away, though it does when I retry the same URL. Started happening around the time I upgraded to latest Sophos AV. A web search indicated this is a sign of a browser not being trusted by AV or anti-malware software, but I don't see anywhere to tell Sophos what to trust or not trust.

Thanks!

  • For weeks, I had been frequently experiencing "can't establish a secure connection", using mainly Safari, but also Opera. The web page would load eventually, sometimes taking several attempts.

My own web site (under development) had the problem most often, even though it was in the Allowed Websites list.

Googling suggested it could be my ISP, or even my Web Host.

I eventually found a reference that recommended turning OFF both options for Web Protection in Sophos.

I've not seen the issue once since doing so.

Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.1
    Safari 9.0.1
    Opera 32.0
    Sophos 9.4.0

No other ant-virus or firewall software installed.
