Console local install - files currently in use

I ahve a user in IT who has an encrypted machine. He's like to install the console locally so he no longer has to remote into the server but when he tries to install it lcoally he's told that he has files in use that need to be updated.

Safeguard Base Encryption service

Safeguard Device Encryption controller

Safeguard Kernal Feature Client

Safeguard Log Service

Safeguard Master Application WatchDog

Safeguard System Event Manager

Safeguard Transport Service

SGNAuthService

SGNMaster Application

Can we just stop these processes and install the program? The user is worried that stopping the processes could effect his computer since it's encypted.

  • Hello the_adrick,

hm, the Prerequisite Checker should have issued a warning that SafeGuard Client is installed but this can be ignored.

I assume, as the Consolexx.msi sets the MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL property to Disable, this is Microsoft Installer's FilesInUse Dialog. Usually it tells you that if you do not shut down the listed applications you have to reboot after the install (in case the applications listed do not depend on the files being updated you don't have to reboot immediately).

Thus you should not stop these processes - as far as I can see the FIU dialog is not customized and should offer you to continue with the install.
