Computer Restart and VPN

Hello,

We have Sophos Safe Guard (version 7.00.0.97) installed on Windows 7 Pro PCs. We are having trouble with connecting via VPN to the computer once a restart has occurred. Is there a solution for this besides just don't restart your computer. At times, Windows updates will automatically restart a computer and our offsite users who normally access via VPN can no longer access the computer without physically coming back to the office to enter their credentials. This is a larger concern from a disaster recovery standpoint as if our computers were to loss power after a prolonged outage we will not be able to access them.

Also, does Safe Guard work with Samsung Pro 850 SSD through Samsung's Magician program? We already have Safe Guard installed. I just wasn't sure if the two connected to each other and aided each other in encryption.

Thank you for your help.

John

    Hi John,

There shouldn't be any issues connecting to the machines after a reboot, unless ofcourse you have POA enabled in which case I would recommend taking a look at the attached article for using the Secure WOL feature: https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/108335.aspx

There is no issue with disaster recovery here, all of the disaster recovery scenarios work locally, either via a booting into the machine or slaving the drive.

I've had a quick look, Samsung's Magician program should be fine providing there's no tampering with any encryption, boot loaders or changing of any required settings.

  • Toby,

I really appreciate your help! Our IT service company recommended SafeGuard to us and honestly it has been a problem ever since. Whenever I try to ask them about it, they want to charge us $150/hour which we are a small company and that adds up fast. They know very little about the product, and I am a technology newbie.

With that said, if I have them turn off POA what security advantages do I miss out on? Secondly, is there a guide I can give them on how to turn it off?

For the Samsung SSD drive question, is there a guide on how to "connect" SafeGuard to the Magician software?

    Thanks for your help!

    John
