Dell Latitude E5440 NO INIT issue

Hello,

we are using Sophos Safeguard Enterprise 6.00.1 with success with DELL Latitude E7240. But our sales team is using DELL Latitude E5440 a new series from DELL and get the "No init" error after booting in POA.

This problem occurs with E7240. The solution was a new POACFG from Sophos. But until now there is no new POACFG available. Does anybody know this problem with DELL Latitude E5440?

Thanks!

  • I just got a batch of Latitdue E5540'S in, but we're using 128GB Mobility Solid State Drives.

I've not seen any POA CFG's from sophos for these at the moment, but you're not the only one with this issue.

  • Found a fix :D

if you spam shift while it's booting up it asks for a hotkey.

when that shows up spam shift+ f6

and that toggles ATA compatibility mode and it boots into windows :D :D

but when i say spam i mean spam like a Starcraft player or it wont work. took me 20mins to finally get one.

    Hope this helps man

  • Okay, I will try it :smileyvery-happy:

How get I shift + F6 in my POACFG File? Is the only way to send the xml export from SGNHWinfo to Sophos support to create the custom poacfg?

  • You could copy the E7240 section of POACFG file, change name to E5440 and add it to POACFG file.

    Example attached.

  • Hi Guys,

the POACFG has been extended with the new Dell Haswell machines (Latitude E7240, E5530 non-vPro, E5540, E5440, E7240) so manually changing the POA to run in INT13 mode (Shift-F6 hotkey) is no longer required.

Let me know if you have any issues or machines that are not covered by the configuraiton file.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hello all,

For some of our Dell Latitude 5440's, entering the F6 hotkey takes care of the issue.  We have another batch, however, where POA also does not seem to be detecting the keyboard so I cannot enter the hotkey.  Has anyone else experienced this?

  • All the time. If for whatever reason you cannot get the keyboard to work you can change the setting that Shift + F6 changes using the BeSetFlags tool. You will need to get a copy of this from Sophos Support.

You will need to boot into a recovery disk from here: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/108805.aspx

Boot into it and copy BeSetFlags to either of these two locations depending on the OS.

    Windows XP, Windows 7 x86:        C:\Windows\System32\

    Windows 7 x64:                                C:\Windows\SysWow64\

The load Launch a Command Prompt and then execute BESetFlags using the following
    switch

    BESetFlags ATA ON

    Reboot and it should work.
