Safeguard Portable 5.60 - USB Correct Key, CD Wrong key

Hi All,

When we write to a USB drive it will correctly use the Users key to encrypt the file and allow you to use the media passphrase to get access to the file.

When we write to a CD it takes on the key of the laptop and won't allow us to use the media passphrase set to get access to the file.

When you try to open a file through the SGPortable application you get a message to say "Decryption failed for <FILENAME> Key is not available"

What do I need to set in the policy so you can use the media passphrase to access encrypted files written to a CD?

  • Hi,

Just a few pointers. Create a separate policy for optical discs. Ensure you make Optical Devices the target for the policy, Media Encryption Mode set to File Based, select any key in user key ring or, better yet, assign group key to allow users working on projects to share data securely and set User may define media passphrase to yes. Hopefully this should get you started.

    Regards.

  • Hi emps, Neil_evolve,

this issue was reported through Sophos Support and is now fixed for the upcoming version of SafeGuard Enterprise (version 6.10).

If required, a hotfix for version 6.00.1 can be requested from Sophos support.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • Excellent. Thank you.

We are in the process of looking at upgrading to 6.XX

When will this be released? If it is coming up shortly (Less than 4 weeks) then I might hang on and go to 6.10.

  • Hey emps,

I do not have the release dates available but I would not expect that SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 will be released in the timeframe you're aiming at.

If you open a ticket with support, with the reference to KBA #119555, they should be able to help you quickly with the mentioned hotfix.

    Hope that helps,

    Chris
