Outlook Add-In for 2013?

New to Sophos this year. How long do development cycles typically take to catch up to current versions of office?

Now that Outlook 2013 is available, it would be great to offer the add-in to end users.

  • I raised a support case last year with Sophos support about releasing a new Sophos Outlook Add-in that supports Outlook 2013, I was told that it should appear sometime this year but they could not provide an exact timeline.  Perhaps a few more posts here reference the Outlook 2013 Add-in will speed up development.

  • So the current Outlook Add-In for email encryption and SPAM reporting isn't compatible or won't work with Outlook 2013?  What happens if you install it and try it?  It won't install or just doesn't work?  I will find this out very soon as I am about to install Office 2013 on one of the new PCs and will try the current Outlook Add-in and see what happens.

I am in the process of replacing all of our desktop PCs in our organizations with new PCs throughout the year.  We will be upgrading from Office 2007 to Office 2013 at the same time I deploy the new PCs.

AND we just deployed email encryption capability to our end users.  I really don't want to have to go back to Office 2007 or Office 2010 just to accommodate the Outlook Add-In.  And I know and completely get the timing of things and software development so not harping that it isn't available or ready.

But curious too if/when the add-in for 2013 will be out.  Hopefully soon.

  • I just installed the Outlook Add-in on Outlook 2013 and everything seems to be there and working.  Had to find the Report As SPAM button but finally found it.

  • Sorry guys, the last time I tried this was the pre-release version of 2013. I just installed the add-in on a fresh version of the final release and it works great.

I have several machines on my work bench so I thought it was a fail on 2013 final version when I posted.

  • Awesome!  Good deal.  Glad to hear that really.  I was hoping what I was experiencing wasn't a fluke to where - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

The only thing I have noticed and Outlook 2013 has reported on one occasion is the fact it has stated the Sophos Outlook Plug-in caused a delay or something to that effect - opening Outlook.  It asked if I wanted to "Disable" it or "Enable" it.   I can't remember which.  It may have disabled it for me and I had to enable it through the message prompt it gave me.  Or maybe it left it enabled and wanted to know if I wanted to "Disable" it.  Either way - I told it to leave it enabled.  But haven't had any other problems.

    Good to hear.

    Thanks!

  • I am also experiencing this difficulty. I have MS Office Standard from an Open volume license on nearly every machine. Currently testing at my own workstation and am failing with,

'Error 1001. No supported version of Outlook found.'

  • It works only if the addin is installed no older version of outlook and you upgrade MS Office. Does not work on fresh installation.
