Running virtual email appliance on XenServer Host

I'm trying to run the Virtual Email Security Appliance on a XenServer host. I have successfully imported the Virtual Instance but am having trouble accessing the web GUI. According to the setup guide, the IP address is normally setup through the VMWare administration area, which is something that I don't have in XenServer. It doesn't allow me to change the IP from within XenServer without having XenTools installed on the guest. I also don't have the credentials to login to the shell to change the IP address on the system level. Are there any workarounds to this? Or is it impossible to get it running on a XenServer host?

  • Hi Joel,

The appliance is not supported (wont work at all) under any host other then Workstation or ESXI. The emulated hardware is designed to be used on those hosts only.

In regards to shell access there is no external ssh access, the appliance is only able to "phone home" when remote assistance is enabled.

In regards to a work around, In short answer is no. The VM is designed to work with the pre-defined hardware on VMware. Changes will cause it to fail to boot/function correctly.

There are feature requests for other vm hosts, hardware upgrades and general refreshes. I would drop by the http://feature.astaro.com/ site and 1up on the features you would like to see added.
