Latest Endpoint Upgrade

Gentlemen,

This morning I get an email indicating that Endpoint V10 will be auto pushed and that it will require a reboot.  It also explains how to do the upgrade manually prior to the push.  Unfortunately, the push occurred yesterday, leaving us without AV protection until we can reboot.  As the protected systems are used in industrial control, "just reboot it" isn't an acceptable standard operating procedure and there's quite a bit of coordination necessary to schedule a reboot, especially a reboot of all the control system machines.  In the future, I would ask that you give me the advisory a month before you autopush the new software.  That way I can schedule the upgrade and reboot without leaving myself with the choice of interrupt operations or run without AV protection.

  • Hello sdv003, can't say if the female employees appreciate being addressed as Gentlemen - guess they can speak for themselves though. Apart from the fact the the required reboot - as Jak has pointed out - does in no way affect the protection in place (and this is stated in the advisories as well as the corresponding knowledgebase articles) the upcoming automatic upgrade (and the requirement for reboot as well as how to postpone v10) has been announced several times in the past months - for example almost exactly one month ago here: community.sophos.com/.../26335 (which IIRC was also sent by mail). Admittedly the last technical alert has been released too late (at least for some customers) but once again, there were several announcements and timely notifications. Oh, and I'm not Sophos, this is just a personal statement Christian
